Message from the President: May 7, 2026Our Rotary on the Road visit to the Shepherd Center was nothing short of inspiring. We had an incredible turnout and an opportunity to see firsthand the life-changing work happening right here in our community. We heard from Julie Shepherd, granddaughter, who shared insights into the therapy dog program, including the special role that Labs and Golden Retrievers play in helping patients on their recovery journey. We were also honored by the presence of Alana Shepherd, founder, whose vision continues to impact so many lives. During our visit, we presented a check in support of the Shepherd Center’s ongoing work. The tour of the Marcus Center for Advanced Rehabilitation gave us a deeper appreciation for how cutting-edge technology is transforming rehabilitation. We learned how something as foundational as proper wheelchair seating can make a profound difference, preventing additional complications and helping patients regain independence and return to their daily routines. Everyone left moved by the care and commitment we witnessed and inspired by the resilience of the patients whose lives are being rebuilt every day. Thank you to Liz Martin for arranging this impactful luncheon and to Denise Starling, immediate past president, who chose the Shepherd Center as her signature project. Best regards, Shelley Hammell
